Movie posters were created to be a marketing tool for the film studios.  Nobody knew they would become such a dynamic and unique art form.
For over 40 years, film historian Ira Resnick has been amassing a collection of 2,000 vintage movie posters and stills.  This book features the best of his collection from the Motion Picture Arts Gallery.  Offering both a chronological and thematic organization, this book provides a tour of cinematic promotion history, starting in the silent era and continuing up to the early 1960’s.
But aside from the wonderful stories and informative commentary, this book brings you right up close to the striking designs and lush color of some of the most famous movie posters and lobby cards in the world.  The oversize format (10" X 12") provides tremendous detail, bringing you right into the picture.
Though this was born from the author’s love of early film stars Louise Brooks, Carole Lombard, Katherine Hepburn and Rita Hayworth, this is not just a poster book, it’s the culmination of a lifelong devotion to a fabulous art form.  272 pages, HC, 258 full color and 28 B&W illustrations, with a foreword by Martin Scorcese.
