She was born in Poland, married in Russia, but gained her fame (infamy) and reputation in Paris. Considered one of the leading and most notorious Deco divas, painter by day, femme fatale by night, Tamara de Lempicka refused to conform to anyone's definition of a lady. The rounded airbrush figures and faces, and dark rimmed eyes seem to exude a bizarre sexuality. Even her flower and still life paintings are exotic. This beautiful book, a catalog for the recent exhibit at the Museum of the 30's in Paris, combines biographical information, thoughtful essays on her work, rare photos of Tamara, some while painting, preparatory sketches, reflections by family and friends, and 60 paintings, some rarely seen. 144 pages, HC, 125 color and B&W illus, 8-1/2" X 12".
